Jeremie Frimpong made his name at Celtic. The Dutch fullback came in from Man City, and it wasn’t long before he received wide-scale attention.

Frimpong’s vivacious performances at right back always caught the eye. The now 22-year-old got up and down the right-hand side with ease, standing out week on week.

Displays such as these inevitably caused Frimpong to attract transfer interest and after 18 months in Glasgow, he eventually departed. On the mere 380,000 euros the Hoops signed him for (Transfermarkt), they made mass profit with Frimpong signing for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga for 11 million euros (Transfermarkt).

Over in Germany, the right-back’s meteoric rise has continued, and this summer, a transfer to the Premier League has been widely discussed for Frimpong. The man who initially brought him to Glasgow and gave him his first chance in the senior game, Neil Lennon, has said he hopes a transfer to England’s top flight for the Dutchman transpires.

Lennon also commented on how ‘proud’ he is of the player. The former treble-winning Hoops gaffer said (betting sites.co.uk via Glasgow Times): “He took the plunge to go to Germany, and he has excelled, and I’m really proud of him. I follow his career and hope he gets the move he wants now.”

Everyone involved with Celtic will be eager to see Frimpong get a big move. If the energetic defender does, it will generate significant funds for the champions due to the shrewd sell-on clause inserted in the deal that saw him sold to Bayer Leverkusen back in 2021.
