Neil Lennon has refused to be drawn into criticism of his goalkeeper after the Milan defeat at Celtic Park.

Nobody can really blame Barkas for any of the goals but there’s a sense and feeling among some in the support that the player is yet to grow into his role.

Fraser Forster comparisons won’t help, especially the sort of form the Englishman was in last year. When our defence gave way, he stood up and was counted.

Right now, when our defence gives way there’s no real confidence our keeper can pull off something special.

We’re still very early in Barkas career and Neil Lennon’s comments suggest he knows Barkas hasn’t been at his best but rightly feels the goalkeeper needs more time.

“I’m not critcising him. He will improve as he goes along. I think it’s unfair to single anyone out when you’re going through a difficult spell of games. I think it’s unfair and I’m not going to do that.” Lennon told Glasgow Live.

Celtic fell to a 3-1 defeat on the night but can take some comfort in their second half performance. On another night, they could have nicked a point.
