You can’t achieve much in a month in a normal job but when you’re brought in by Celtic for a quick cup of coffee to recruit for the summer then you better get going fast.

Scout Nicky Hammond was announced by Celtic in June as the man to come in and be a temporary replacement for Lee Congerton to help with Celtic’s summer recruitment.

It was stated Hammond would start the job on July 1st and help Celtic secure targets for the coming season.

From what we gather, Boli Bolingoli was already on Celtic’s radar, as was Christopher Jullien. Hatem Elhamed could have had something to do with Hammond but more likely Neil Lennon’s relationship with the player’s agent that sorted out that deal. Luca Connell was already being courted by Celtic before Hammond’s appointment so as we sit in the middle of August after a month in the role, we have nothing to suggest Lee Congerton was every replaced by anyone.

Neil Lennon did get fans excited about potential incomings being imminent at the end of July but then cooled off on that sort of talk when deals were not getting over the line.

If Hammond is only here for the summer, does he care enough? Presumably, he wants the gig full time, but right now he’s won no friends in the Celtic support.

With just over two weeks to go, can Celtic pull a rabbit out of the hat?

  1. I think the players we have at the moment ,are a good group of players, who could be a really good side,a few new signings have joined the club, they have not set the heather on fire yet,but I’m sure they will be very good players,The big problem for me is Neil Lennon, and some of his coaches, they need to be replaced, yes it was a disaster on Tuesday night,be we move on,hopefully we can add a few additions before the months out,and a new manager, but who?
