Celtic will welcome back Holmbert Fridjonsson’s for pre-season after Brondby’s sporting director admitted the club would not be taking up their option to buy the youngster after his initial loan period.

“Holmbert has performed really well for us, both in training and in matches, and he has great potential.” He said.

“Realistically though, we believe that Holmbert will not receive enough playing time with us going forward, and we have therefore decided it is best for both parties not to activate the purchase option that lay in the loan.”

The Danish club play their final match of the season this coming weekend against Esbjerg where Holmbert will play his last game before returning to Glasgow.

The Superliga side also have Teemu Pukki on-loan and are keen to hang onto him beyond this summer. However they have asked Celtic to lower their asking price for the player in order to make a deal. It remains to be seen if Celtic will bow to their demands.

Ronny Deila has made no secrets about wanting to trim his squad and Teemu is definitely not a part of his plans.
