Former Celtic youngster, Jackson Irvine has been released by English Championship club, Hull City.

This Australian midfielder who has earned 34 caps for his country and also had spells at clubs such as Ross County and Burton Albion has reportedly turned down a new deal to stay at the KCOM Stadium.

With the season not finished in England, and set to continue as Hull City take on Charlton Athletic this Saturday it is thought to be a huge blow to manager, Grant McCann as Irvine seemed to be an ever present in the side.

Irvine played a total of 36 games this season scoring twice and assisting twice. Overall, throughout his Hull career, he turned out 112 times for the Tigers over a three year spell.

With Irvine now being a free agent, could there be a possibility that Celtic may make a move on the experienced Australian?  A midfielder with international pedigree, who knows the league and the club.

At the minute, the chances are likely very slim. However if any of the midfielders were to move on, such as Oliver Ntcham, there could be a chance that Neil Lennon swoops in to sign the man who was under 19s captain, during his first spell as manager at the club.

  1. Don’t talk daft. He was at Ross County for a reason. He is not good enough for Celtic. Great lad and played well for Ross County but if this is the standard Celtic are looking at with their millions in the coffers then god help us
