Pat Bonner shed light on the stark contrast in performance between Nicolas Kuhn and Hyun-Jun Yang during Celtic’s latest outing against Motherwell.
In a match that saw the Bhoys orchestrate a commendable second-half comeback to secure a 3-1 win, the substitution of Kuhn for Yang in the latter half proved pivotal. This adjustment by Brendan Rodgers not only contributed to the team’s victory but also highlighted the distinct impact of Yang’s play on the field.
Despite his reluctance to harshly critique Kuhn, who has found it challenging to make a significant mark since his winter transfer to Celtic, Bonner couldn’t help but observe the immediate uplift in the team’s dynamism following Yang’s introduction. The 21-year-old Korean winger’s contribution, which included an assist for one of Adam Idah’s crucial goals, was instrumental in keeping the gap with Rangers the same as it was heading into the weekend.
Bonner, speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, said: “I don’t want to be too heavy on Nicolas Kuhn, but he has been around for a while, Celtic paid money for him and he is getting decent wages at the club. But the difference in the second half was compelling for me when you look at him and Yang. Even Yang, you can question at times, but he is much better.”
Many Celtic fans are hoping that Yang can kick on from here, and hopefully get a run of games to show more than what he has so far.
