DAIZEN MAEDA scored the goal that meant Celtic’s lead wouldn’t narrow in the side’s 2-1 win over Motherwell.

Starting on the bench, he replaced Jota late into the second half and controlled the ball brilliantly before running through one-on-one with the Motherwell goalkeeper. He then put it past Kelly to score his third league goal of the season.

He’ll soon be jetting off to Qatar to represent Japan, and his goal on Wednesday night will be a great confidence boost for the player who’s not been in the best form this season.

Postecoglou was full of praise for Maeda after the game, admitting he was pleased with his season so far, offering a different type of player to the team. As quoted by the Daily Record, the Celtic manager said;

“He works so hard for the team. He’s surrounded by other attackers who are different to him. He doesn’t get the headlines. But the contribution he makes is immense. I left him out for the last couple of games to freshen him up. He was outstanding again.”

Maeda offers so much to the team but can often frustrate in front of the goal. He’s a player that Ange knows and rated highly, there’s a reason he was brought to Celtic.
