As soon as Phil Jagielka was released from his Everton deal the 36-year-old was linked with a move to Celtic straight off the bat.

The media assuming an out of contract Premier League defender would be right up Celtic’s street with them losing two first team centre backs over the summer.

This was just paper talk more than anything. Yesterday, there was a furore surrounding the possible signing of the player to either Celtic or The Rangers when the player was spotted in Glasgow with Gordon Smith. The link would lean more towards an Ibrox move considering who Jagielka was with but nobody wanted to rule out why he was in Glasgow.

Football Scotland posted the image of the player on Great Western road but immediately dispelled any notion he Phil was there to sign for either Glasgow club.

According to the report, Phil was visiting good friends of his in Glasgow as he enjoys some down time before making his next move.

He’s really not what Celtic need at the moment.
