The 2-0 defeat of Celtic at home to Hearts has not only marked a significant setback on the pitch but also sparked notable unrest among the supporters, particularly aimed at the Celtic board.

The loss, which was Celtic’s first home league defeat since the COVID season, has led to visible frustrations among fans, as observed and reported by BBC Sportsound pundit Michael Stewart.

Hearts’ Lawrence Shankland and Stephen Kingsley scored in the first half, securing their team’s first victory at Celtic Park since 2009.

Boos echoed around the stadium at both half-time and full-time, signalling the fans’ displeasure.

A particularly tense moment occurred in the Main Stand, leading to the ‘sack the board’ chants, where some supporters vocally expressed their criticisms towards the Celtic board. Stewart, who had a clear view of the incident from the press section, described the scene:

“Further down towards the tunnel, even after the first goal before the second, somebody turned round and was having words with the board.

“In that area, there were a lot more later on, some stewards wanted to come and try to calm things down. That just seemed to agitate it a little bit more because the punters felt they should be allowed to voice their opinions.

“Right in front of us [in the press box], it got pretty heated. There were a few folks who came close to getting involved in an altercation. Other people were pulling them back to try and calm it down.

“The big thing here is that it felt, on the back of that, there was a real divide between the punters and the upper class – the board and the guests. The perception from me looking from the outside is that the board have got money, they’ve not spent it well enough and they need to do the job better.”

From on the park to off the pitch, there’s a real disconnection between the fans and the board, and it’s something that needs to be resolved.

  1. The board are not interested AT ALL in what the fans think… Only thing that will move them will be fans voting with their feet which won’t happen as that will affect the team. Just hoping that Brendan sorts this mess out, gets money to spend and hope to god he actually spends it well, which I’m not so sure about.

  2. Lawell senior is the core of the problem and his love for “the old firm”/ Time for Peter and Boy Wonder’s son to get real jobs away from football, Tired of the Lawell influence in Celtic.
