Celtic icon John Hartson has suggested that James Forrest could earn his first start of the season for the team in their upcoming match against St Mirren.

After a challenging draw with Hibernian, Hartson believes that manager Brendan Rodgers might opt for some rotation to keep the squad fresh, something the Northern Irishman has hinted at over the past few weeks.

Forrest, a 32-year-old winger with over 100 goals and 100 assists for Celtic, has shown his value when coming off the bench this season, and Hartson thinks it wouldn’t be surprising to see him start against St Mirren.

Luis Palma, who played in the previous match, may make way for Forrest in the starting lineup, predicts the pundit.

Speaking on Go Radio, the Welshman said: “I don’t think he has let anybody down when he has come on.

“James has been at the club, he has had his testimonial, over 100 goals and 100 assists.

“This boy has been a serious player for Celtic. When he comes on, predominately, he makes a bit of an impact in the game. He plays on that right-hand side. Generally beats the fullback. He gets crosses in. Attempts on goal.

“And it wouldn’t surprise me if he started tomorrow night instead of Palma. James deserves his opportunity. Palma was quiet at the weekend.”

Rodgers is bound to make changes to his squad, with a tough trip to Dingwall at the weekend followed by an away day to Spain for the fourth matchday of the Champions League.
