Neil Lennon revealed on Friday he was hopeful of having a replacement in place for Damien Duff by next week. Reports online this weekend claim the man in pole position for the job is Gavin Strachan.

For those who aren’t aware, yes, he is Gordon Strachan’s son.

Gavin is currently the assistant manager at Peterborough, working alongside Alex Ferguson’s son, Darren.

Scottish journalist, Alan Nixon claims the move for the former footballer will move very quickly in the coming days.

Gordon Strachan currently appears as a BT Pundit and works in an ambassador role for Dundee. There has to be some input from the former Celtic manager if Neil Lennon has decided to go for the coach. Neil Lennon was brought on as a coach by Gordon before landing the managerial role a year after Strachan left his post at Celtic.

It would certainly be a left-field signing with many supporters angling for a former player.

Here are some of Gavin’s credentials:

  •  Peterborough United as youth team coach
  • Promoted to first team coach position with Peterborough.
  • In June 2015, Strachan was appointed the new manager of Ilkeston, his first managerial job.
  • On 16 October 2015, Strachan became assistant manager to Darren Ferguson at Doncaster Rovers.
  • On 26 January 2019, Strachan became assistant manager to Darren Ferguson at Peterborough United after the dismissal of Steve Evans and Paul Raynor.
