Brendan Rodgers has provided an update about the injury status of Kasper Schmeichel after the Denmark international sustained a shoulder injury during the recent international break. The 38-year-old missed this afternoon’s 3-0 win over Hearts at Celtic Park, but manager Brendan Rodgers has provided an encouraging update regarding the injury.

Rodgers Provides Clarity on Schmeichel’s Injury

In his post-match interview, Rodgers revealed that he had spoken to Schmeichel last night about the injury, and while it is a setback, it appears there is no need for immediate surgery. The Celtic boss confirmed that the club is taking a cautious approach, with Schmeichel set to undergo a scan on Monday to get a clearer picture of the situation.

Rodgers said: (The Celtic Way), “I spoke to Kasper last night. He’s got a scan on Monday. We don’t believe it needs an operation. It’s just going to be about how long it takes for it to repair and heal. So we should know more on Monday.”

What Does This Mean for Celtic?

With Schmeichel sidelined, the responsibility has fallen to Celtic’s backup options, including Viljami Sinisalo, who has been in fine form since joining the club. While Sinisalo impressed this afternoon against Hearts, it’s clear that Celtic fans are eager to see Schmeichel back between the posts as soon as possible, particularly with important games still to come.

However, Rodgers’ update offers hope. If Schmeichel’s injury can heal without the need for surgery, the Hoops may not have to deal with a long-term absence. The fact that they will know more after Monday’s scan suggests the club is actively monitoring his progress, and supporters will no doubt be waiting anxiously for more details.

Looking Ahead to Schmeichel’s Return

Although Schmeichel’s absence from today’s victory over Hearts didn’t affect Celtic’s performance, supporters will be hopeful for his swift recovery. Celtic’s next few game will be vital in securing a 55th league title, and having first-choice Schmeichel back would provide a major boost to the squad.

For now, all eyes will be on Monday’s scan, and Celtic fans will be hoping for good news on Schmeichel’s recovery.

  1. Sinisalo had an excellent game against Hearts today. He was confident and brilliantly marshalled his defence. There is absolutely no need to worry. We have a very good keeper here and he needs games. The future looks bright. I was looking forward to seeing him today and I am looking forward to seeing him again. Impressive performance!
