KRIS COMMONS has spoken to the BBC about Celtic’s failure to make the Champions League and believes the blame lies with recruitment rather than cash.

The board have been slaughtered since last night but not as many people have pointed the finger directly at Rodgers and his backroom staff.

Kris Commons believes in Peter Lawwell’s mind – he’s probably given Rodgers enough money.

“The quality isn’t good enough for a starting place in the 11,” Commons said.

“Everyone says he’s been crying out for defenders, but he signed two goalkeepers in Dorus de Vries and Scott Bain, two centre-halves in Marvin Compper and Jack Hendry, right-back Cristian Gamboa, he’s just re-signed Emilio Izaguirre…

“He’s had the funds to get good players but they’re not making any impact on the side. He has three or four that pass the mark – Scott Sinclair, Odsonne Edouard, Moussa Dembele and Olivier Ntcham.

“Peter Lawwell does not have a blank chequebook. Rodgers has spent around £25m on transfers – without signing-on fees, wages, agent fees – in 24 months. Lawwell probably thinks he’s given him enough.”

  1. It’s not the end of the world what about the eleven wee teams in our league who haven’t won a raffle between them in two seasons they should be greeting.

  2. Too hard on BR. Boyata last minute withdrawal an unprofessional disgrace by experienced CH and made a tough situation even worse! I blame scouting and coaching in last 2 years ;useless

  3. I think kris Commons’ remarks are wide of the mark. BR has said on numerous occasions if we standstill we go backwards. Some players brought in have been projects, some stop gaps, There have been no experienced players brought in with any pedigree to take us to the next level. That has now allowed the competition to get nearer. For me the people designated to find, negotiate and get these over the line have let everyone down. Can they redeem themselves? They have two weeks to show us.
