Celtic and Southampton, along with PSV Eindhoven, are keen on signing Austrian goalkeeper Patrick Pentz from Bayer Leverkusen, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Pentz, who is currently impressing on loan at Brondby in Denmark, has become a hot prospect following his solid performances in the Superliga.

The 27-year-old keeper was brought in as a replacement at Brondby after their previous first-choice, Mads Hermansen, made the move to Championship outfit to Leicester City.

With Joe Hart announcing his retirement at the end of this season, Celtic are urgently looking for a goalkeeper to step in.

Meanwhile, Southampton’s need for a new number one has become acute following Gavin Bazunu’s Achilles injury, which will sideline him until 2025.

Despite his contract with Leverkusen running until June 2025, the fact that Pentz has yet to make an appearance for the Bundesliga champions could see them open to offers.

With the summer transfer window approaching Celtic could be positioned to secure a deal for the Austrian international.

  1. Heard it all before Celtic are linked with every player out there season after season! Will believe it only when it happens. Can’t understand why Celtic don’t just go for Scotland keeper Angus Gunn, he has the necessary talent to make it at Celtic Park. An ideal scenario would be to talk Joe Hart into staying on as a keeper coach to pass on his experience to Gunn.
