Celtic lost to Atletico Madrid by six goals to nil on Tuesday evening. The Hoops were well and truly humbled in the Spanish capital.
The result was hugely disappointing, although the Celts will still be eager to qualify for Europe after Christmas. Such a task will be arduous but not impossible.
The fact Celtic lost their opening two Champions League games made a recovery instantly harder. On this, Scales said (Glasgow Times): “You might feel like you maybe could have gotten a result. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but in a couple of the games in this campaign I feel like we could have got something out of them. Ok, not on Tuesday night, but we just have to learn from this, take it into the next two games and really have a go at it.”
To have any shot at Europe after Christmas, Celtic need to learn from their previous mistakes. Beating Lazio away and Feyenoord at Celtic Park, combined with some results going their way elsewhere, is the only which the Hoops can have European football in the new year.
