Former Celtic captain and iconic figure of the fierce rivalry between Celtic and Rangers, Scott Brown, is preparing for a unique return to Ibrox, this time leading Ayr United in the Scottish Cup last 16.

Brown’s return to Ibrox as Ayr United’s manager is poised to be a momentous occasion, not just for him but for the entire Ayr United squad.

After concluding his playing career, Brown ventured into coaching, initially taking up a role at Aberdeen before transitioning to management with Fleetwood Town, where he led an impressive FA Cup run. Despite being later dismissed from Fleetwood Town, Brown has now taken the helm at Ayr United, starting his tenure with a win against Queen’s Park, though facing a setback against Championship leaders Dundee United.

Despite anticipating a tasty reception due to his Celtic legacy, Brown is focused on ensuring the experience is about his players and their performance. “I’ve got a lot of love for Rangers,” Brown remarked with a notable hint of irony, reflecting on his storied past with the Ibrox crowd. Yet, he emphasised to the BBC, “That’s all in the past now. This is going to be a great experience for the club, it’s going to be a great experience for the lads as well.

“I’m sure they’ll cherish it. You want to play against good teams and Rangers are a good team.”
