SKY SPORTS have been the latest outlet to confirm Celtic have accepted an offer from Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds for striker Giorgos Giakoumakis but for an even lower fee than what has been touted already.

Sky Sports understands the initial fee is £3m. However, Giakoumakis is still weighing up his options, amid strong interest from Atlanta United. The Major League Soccer club have reportedly offering the Celtic striker a lucrative alternative, making the decision to join Urawa difficult.

The move to Japan would represent a significant step back in the frontman’s career. Urawa Red Diamonds are one of the most supported clubs in the J-League with a big upside but it doesn’t compare to Celtic.

Giakoumakis has been in impressive form for Celtic this season, scoring ten goals in all competitions. He has also been capped by Greece at international level, making eleven appearances for the national team.

It remains to be seen whether Giakoumakis will opt to join Urawa Red Diamonds or if Atlanta will manage to hijack the deal. If the former does happen, it could be the start of an exciting new chapter in the striker‘s career, as he seeks to become one of the best players in the JLeague which he has the potential to be.
