Marco Tilio is a player Celtic fans are still waiting to see in action since his arrival in the summer. However, his first competitive football since signing for Celtic may not be in the green and white hoops.

Overnight, the Australian Under 23 squad has been announced and Marco has made the cut for Tony Vidmar’s side. The winger will be part of the squad that plays two friendlies in Saudi Arabia during the international break despite him not kicking a ball yet for Celtic.

Marco signed for Celtic and immediately picked up an injury which meant he had zero pre-season. When he was cleared to join the Celtic first team, most fans thought it was only a matter of time before he made a Celtic squad. Instead, we’re still waiting to see Marco in action and it might come for Australia before Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers has been asked several times about the Australian winger. The Irishman was honest and revealed Marco has struggled in the early going with the intensity of training at Celtic. Meaning until he can keep up with his teammates and get up to speed, he will continue to miss out on matchday squads.

It’s curious to see Australia calling the player up despite the lack of game time to this point. They obviously know what Marco can do and have saw him play back him in Oz.

Celtic fans are frustrated it’s taking so long for a new signing to get up to speed. Supporters want to see the winger in action, but Brendan Rodgers is correct to hold back if he isn’t ready.

Hopefully the two games during the international break will actually be a positive for Marco.
