Chris Sutton certainly isn’t someone who is scared to speak his mind and he proved that today, in criticising out of favour Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths.

Speaking on the Daily Record Podcast, Sutton blasted Griffiths, stating he is ‘fighting for his career’ after the 29-year old returned to pre-season unfit and out of shape.

“Where he stands right now is fighting for his career, at Celtic and maybe for his football career full stop

“I know that Leigh’s had problems and we sympathise with that but this, through the four months of Lockdown has been an opportunity for Leigh really get into ship-shape condition.

“He has had massive issues with his fitness levels, came back, transformed Celtic’s season. That two up top, he linked well with Edouard, they were phenomenal.”

If you were to ask fans the majority would say they would love to have a fully fit Griffiths, ready to go for the coming season. He showed what he was capable at the end of last season, scoring a hat-trick in the hoops final game against St Mirren.

With him coming back in poor condition though, it really wasn’t good enough and has left Neil Lennon questioning whether he can still rely on the striker.

He future is certainly hanging by a thread at the club right now and Chris Sutton is right to blast him after all the club has done for him. If he is given another chance, fingers crossed we will be able to see him back fully fit and fighting for a place sooner, rather than later
