With Greg Taylor’s contract with Celtic drawing to a close next summer, discussions about his future and the left-back position at the club are becoming increasingly pertinent.

Taylor, who has been a consistent presence for Celtic, may not be universally acclaimed, but his work ethic and performance at left-back have been valuable for the team.

The scenario of Celtic aiming to bolster the left-back slot in the upcoming transfer window is likely, especially considering the loan move of backup left-back Bernabei. The intention to improve the squad is clear, and finding a new left-back will be a priority to ensure depth and competition within the team.

However, the idea of upgrading does not negate the importance of retaining Taylor. His experience, understanding of the club, and ability to deliver solid performances make him a crucial squad member. Even in a hypothetical situation where Celtic could re-sign Kieran Tierney – which doesn’t look too likely – having Taylor as an option provides reliable cover.

Extending Taylor’s contract, therefore, seems not just a matter of securing depth but also of valuing the contribution and reliability he brings to the team.

His presence allows Celtic the comfort of having a dependable and battle-tested player ready to step in when needed.
