Celtic are in the market for a goalkeeper, with the club looking to replace Joe Hart whose contract is set to expire in six months.

Reports say that Celtic have some targets, but they may wait until the summer before they make a move.

However, the club will be hoping that targets haven’t been paying attention to what former shot-stopper Barkas has been saying in the press.

Former Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas has expressed reservations about recommending Celtic to fellow goalkeepers.

Barkas’ time at Celtic is often remembered as one of the club’s less successful signings. He joined the Hoops from AEK Athens for £4.5 million but struggled to make a significant impact, and was quite hopeless at times.

Reflecting on his experience at Celtic, Barkas acknowledged that there were extenuating circumstances that might have contributed to his difficulties. The Covid-19 pandemic, which affected the normal functioning of sports teams worldwide, played a role in his struggle to connect with teammates.

He said: [Glasgow Times] “At Celtic, I didn’t feel like I was an important part of the team.

“But maybe it wasn’t even the team’s fault. It was a Covid year, everything was different.

“For the first six months I didn’t know my teammates, we were all in different dressing rooms.

“Celtic are a huge club, but I wouldn’t recommend to any goalkeeper to go there.”

  1. Not in the least Barkas fault, he had a defence which included Duffy, no keeper was good enough, guy lost all confidence withe the poorest defence in the league, coupled with Lennon, the poorest mgr in the league, I will never forget what lennon said and did to Mikey Johnston, I wouldn’t let Lennon run a bath, not that he could anyway.

    • Did you see him warm up?Never attempted to stop a shot. Did he actually make 1 save in a game for us? I am pretty certain he didn’t. Lennie and Duffy were brutal but words can’t describe how appallingly bad barkas was. The worst keeper ever to play in the spl imo.
