In a reprehensible display of bigotry, a segment of the Rangers fanbase reached a new low during a recent Scottish Cup match. Their target? The son of Celtic icon Neil Lennon, specifically through a vile chant aimed at Gallagher Lennon, who recently joined Dumbarton on loan from St. Mirren.

Despite Gallagher being an unused substitute in the game against Rangers, these fans did not hesitate to belt out ‘Hang Neil Lennon, Hang him high’ – a chant that plumbs the depths of disgraceful behavior.

This incident not only casts a shadow over Scottish football but also underscores a disturbing tolerance for sectarian hatred within parts of the football community. Neil Lennon’s tenure with Celtic, beginning in 2001, has been marred by such bigotry. From being compelled to retire from international football due to sectarian threats, to being physically assaulted both in public spaces and at football venues, Lennon’s association with Celtic has made him a target for abhorrent acts of violence and hatred. The mainstream media has indulged over the years in the argument that he brings it on himself.

I wonder what Gallagher did to have to listen to people singing about hanging his dad.

WARNING: The Song can be audibly heard in the clip below, proudly posted by a Rangers supporter.

The silence from mainstream media on this matter is deafening. It falls upon platforms like ours, dedicated to fan-based journalism, to shine a light on these despicable acts. This latest episode of fan misconduct serves as a stark reminder of the persistent undercurrents of bigotry that still plague Scottish football. While Rangers FC has historically condemned chants directed at their own, their silence on this matter speaks volumes.

This is not merely about football rivalries; it’s a matter of human decency and respect. Such behavior should have no place in football or any other aspect of society. It’s high time for all clubs, and their supporters, to unequivocally condemn and act against such vile expressions of hatred.

  2. Totally dispicable. As is the disgusting ‘Super Cooper’ song from sections of our support and the silence from this site and our club is just as bad.
Its sheer hypocrisy to call out the Sevco fans for their disgusting behaviour, yet totally ignore sections of our own fanbase.

  3. Spot on Terry.
No point in calling out supporters of others if you don’t call out your own.
I have been blocked and banned from many Celtic fan groups for calling out our own supporters for this same behaviour

  4. There is a call for clubs to forfeit games when their fans are proved to have spouted racist remarks to any player during a game in England ! If it happens down there ,do you think the authorities shall follow suit up in wee Scawlin ? Don’t be silly now !

  5. As usual slim shadey FC will blame rogue Chelsea fans who interbred with Sevco fans especially for the game.

And put on their best Scotty accents and dabbities. After arrivin by coach, train and yacht. To sing some sea shanties outside the stadium. And the North sea wind carried their song within.

And they will say is about someone else called Neil Lennon, they all know, that’s unconnected and that’s fine with the Sfa.
