Shaun Maloney has confirmed Greg Wallace has left Celtic to join Brendan Rodgers in Saudi Arabia, despite the club not yet making any official announcement about his departure.
That move has now effectively been confirmed by Maloney.
Speaking to TCW about how Celtic’s coaching staff will divide responsibilities this season, Maloney referenced Wallace’s departure while discussing the individual work previously carried out behind the scenes.
He said: “Last season it was Gavin Strachan who did that. I can’t take any credit for that! We also had Greg Wallace, who went to Saudi with Brendan Rodgers recently, and those two were really good with the individual stuff. I was doing things away from the pitch more, so I will pick more of that up this season.
“Stephen McManus and Mark Fotheringham do their stuff with different positions, but it was Gav and Greg who did the attacking work.”
The comments confirm Wallace is no longer part of Martin O’Neill’s first-team setup.
Celtic have not issued a formal statement on the move, but Maloney’s wording leaves little doubt that Wallace has now followed Rodgers to Saudi Arabia.
Wallace joined Celtic from Tottenham Hotspur in 2022 as Head Analyst and First Team Coach and remained part of the backroom staff through several managerial changes.
He worked under Ange Postecoglou, Rodgers and, most recently, O’Neill.
His departure follows Gavin Strachan’s move to West Bromwich Albion earlier in the summer and means Maloney will now take on more of the individual coaching work previously handled by the pair.
Celtic have already reshaped parts of the coaching staff, with Ross Grant arriving as set-piece coach while Maloney, McManus and Fotheringham have all remained alongside O’Neill.
Wallace’s exit is another change behind the scenes, and Maloney has now provided the first public confirmation that his former colleague has moved on.
