BRIGHTON and Japan star Kaoru Mitoma shared that he was very flattered by Ange Postecoglou‘s offer to join Celtic but ultimately decided to pursue a move to the Premier League.
Despite considering Celtic, Mitoma admitted that the draw of the Premier League was to strong, and he couldn’t turn down the offer.
Mitoma is now thriving in the Premier League with Brighton, who are performing quite well, again. The side plays some nice football under boss Roberto De Zerbi, and the winger is reaping the benefits of the fluid attacking play, with ten goals and seven assists.
As quoted by the Daily Record, Mitoma said:
“I was flattered, but also I knew that the Premier League has the highest level of football in the world. This was why I accepted Brighton’s offer straight away. I did give some time to think about Celtic too, however, my desire to play in the strongest league in the world was very high, as well as my desire to play with and against the best players in the world.”
Celtic were keen to bring Mitoma in alongside Kyogo in Ange Postecoglou’s first transfer window with the Hoops, but it wasn’t to be.
Ange’s ‘plan B’ was successful, as ever, with Jota rapidly becoming a fan favourite, with his quality there for all to see.
