STEVE CLARKE has made it clear in his Scotland press conference he’s open to a Celtic approach after journalists pushed him on the Celtic job opening.

The Scotland boss skirted around the issue at first but when one journalist asked if Clarke would rule himself out of the job and say he doesn’t want it, his reply was telling:

“Why would anybody say they don’t want anything? Why would I do that? I could be somewhere else in the summer, I don’t know what’s going to happen.” Clarke told SunSport.

“Did you know this time last year we were going to be stuck in the house all this time by a pandemic?”

“Nobody knows what’s going to happen, so I don’t think it’s fair you say I’ve got to knock it on the head. I didn’t start the speculation.

“I’m delighted and proud to be the manager of Scotland.”

Clarke is taking Scotland to the Euros, as he should after helping them qualify for their first major tournament since France 98.

There has been so much speculation surrounding the former Killie boss and he wasn’t and he has certainly not distanced himself from the position.

If Scotland were to be knocked out at the group stage, Clarke would be available from June 23rd. Just under a month before Celtic’s first Champions League qualifier. If they went further, that window would shorten.

Celtic have given nothing away with regards to what they’re thinking. The media are scrambling and have linked just about every manager possible with the Parkhead hot seat. Just like the Dominic McKay appointment, the Hoops could announce a new manager without anyone catching on.
