Celtic have a large squad right now but there isn’t as big a chasm between players in the first team and their back-ups like previous years.

There’s genuinely at least two players vying for every position and on any given day could be get the nod to start without many batted eye-lids.

However, there are some exceptions to that rule and it probably comes from Celtic’s weakest area of the park.

Callum McGregor, Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham are the three central midfielders Celtic are relying on at the minute. Neil Lennon only needs two of them mind you at one time and has had negative results when he’s tried to cram all three into the same side.

Once you go beyond those three, it’s slim picking when it comes to central midfielders. David Turnbull would have been Celtic’s first signing of the summer had his medical not flagged a massive issue. Lennon knew he was light on the ground when it came to midfielders but one man who can’t even get into a squad at the minute is Eboue Kouassi.

The midfielder has been back in training for some time after a horrible ACL injury. However, we’ve not seen Neil Lennon push him to play for the reserves or even appear in a bounce game at Lennoxtown.

Is the Celtic manager and backroom staff wrapping the player in cotton wool or does he just not fancy Kouassi to do a job?

He was spotted in training on Friday all smiles.

Eboue is still only 21 and has time to try and get back into contention but right now as a £3.15m (TransferMarkt) Celtic transfer he can only be described as a Celtic flop at present.
