BRENDAN RODGERS has spoken about the regime he had at Celtic which he had at Liverpool towards the end of his time at Anfield which gave the platform for success in Glasgow.

The Irishman visibly looked and got fitter while at Celtic if you compare and contrast his Liverpool day pictures to his Celtic career.

The former Celtic boss has told how he and his coaching staff would set the precedent for the day by making sure they were in early and had gone through their own paces before the bhoys would come in and get going.

Rodgers speaks of a philosophy which he can keep up with for now but in ten years time if he’s still a manager – there’s just no way he can do it.

If you can show the players you are willing to push yourself too then you can potentially get more out of some of them

“Every morning there will be a group of us in there, from about 7.30am onwards.” he told RecordSport.

“It’s something I did at Celtic and Liverpool. It was towards the end of my time at Liverpool when I really got into it – because I wasn’t in such good nick five years ago. So I increased my training and changed my diet.

“It wasn’t for any other reason than personal pride – but it does give me energy to do my work – all the science behind it tells you that.

“And I feel much better when I’m training than when I’m not – you know what they say – that your stomach is your badge of honour.

“But obviously as you get older your health becomes increasingly important.

He said: “And if you’re asking a lot of players and pushing them to work to their highest level then I think it’s important that the staff are also fit.

“I said to the players that it gives us energy.

“In football you work long hours and if you concentrate and you are fit then you can do the job better.”

Brendan’s fitness regime did very well for Celtic and his results speak for themselves. We wonder what prompted Rodgers to get into shape and carry out this football philosophy. It may or may not have been around the time he and his wife separated and he met his current wife.

Whatever the reason for why the former Celtic boss got into shape it did ultimately benefit the club and is likely benefitting Leicester at the moment.
