Virgil van Dijk was a revelation at Celtic during his time with the club.

Not only was he a sturdy rock in defence but on occasion he could be a potent attacking threat.

The Dutchman will play at Pittodrie tonight – a stadium where he’s seen some highs and lows.

Speaking ahead of Holland’s friendly with Scotland the towering defender spoke about Celtic and how much he still follows the club.

They have been unbelievable, they have done brilliantly and I always look out for Celtic’s results. When you play for Celtic, your love for the club never goes away. They have made great strides under Brendan Rodgers

“They made history last week and that was great to see. It shows how strong they are and, hopefully, they can keep going.

“They have had some good games against some top teams. It is hard for them, but it is great to see them back in the Champions League. The club and the fans deserve to be at that stage.

“It is nice to be back in Scotland again. I had some great times here with Celtic. I have also scored some big goals for Celtic at Pittodrie, so it is also good to come back to Aberdeen, especially with the Dutch national team,”

  1. Why do Celtic fans have a go at players trying to make a living for themselves and their families !!! Good luck Virgil and thanks for the memories Hail Hail ??

  2. Now that’s how conduct yourself after leaving Celtic FC,Cascarino take note,Virgil Van Dijk was one of our best defenders in recent years.Even though he may well have stayed a wee bit longer,it probably was his time to move on;footballing careers are short and can end with one bad tackle. There’s also the added bonus that the lawyers @CFC? had the foresight to add a sell on clause, that money will come in very hand,as CFC? are still in search for a full-time replacement in that position.
    Good luck Virgil,HH??✅

  3. Goodluck Virgil,There is No Club like Celtic.People knocking the Guy for wanting to better himself and be financially Safe,Family Included. We had him for two good years.Pity it wasnt longer but Atleast he Has Celtic at Heart.More than can be said for some X Players that were utter Duds yet knock Our achievements.Cascarino How this walloper didnt get embarrassed when knocking Celtic beggars belief.Four goals in twenty odd games.Obviously couldnt hack it up here.Barton isnt even relevant,Guys nothing more than a Mouth Piece.HH Virgil,Hopefully you put a few past Scotland tonight.I,d never back Scotland till all the Corrupt Lowlifes are Named n Shamed. And sent packing.

  4. Think of the team we could have had IF we had access to the money they have in the Murdoch franchise down south. Add Virgil, Victor, Fraser, Ki and Hooper to our current squad and that’s a mighty tasty prospect.

  5. I wish I had the wages he got at Celtic. Surely anyone can “survive” on that! Love Celtic…then why did he piss off? Answer= Greed, not love!
