Aaron Mooy’s transfer to Celtic has been met with a lot of mixed feelings from supporters but I truly believe the 31-year old can be a success at the club.

During this window, Nir Bitton and Ismalia Soro departed meaning that Celtic had to find a new midfielder.

During Australia’s World Cup Qualifier with Peru the former Huddersfield midfielder played just in front of the back four in the position that would be described as the ‘six’.

That position was mainly covered by captain Callum McGregor during last seasons campaign and is still likely to be going forward.

Mooy isn’t likely to come in and feature anywhere near the amount of games McGregor plays but will add depth the squad and be a solid contributor.

It also gives Ange Postecoglou other options which could be particularly important in the Champions League where the boss might look to play two controlling midfielders.

There is very little risk in the deal with Ange having already worked with Mooy in the national team set up. He knows exactly what he gets from him and could link up superbly with Kyogo and Daizen Maeda who love the ball played in-behind them.

Over the past year the club has almost spent £40 million meaning that we aren’t likely to have the luxury of more £6 million players like Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers arriving during this window meaning that getting Mooy in on a free transfer could free up surplus cash on other players as Celtic aren’t finished with their business yet.

The other notion that Postecoglou has signed the midfielder because he’s Australian is also nonsense. Mooy will become the first Aussie that the boss has signed while at a foreign club.

Postecoglou had a phenomenal first season in charge of the Hoops and he has enough credit in the bank for supporters to trust him. He has delivered before and shall do so again.

Trust the process.
