BARRY FERGUSON has come to the defence of Celtic and branded some of the decisions against the Hoops during the first half of the season as ‘absolutely ridiculous’.

It comes as James Sands was given a big let off during Thursday night’s tie at Ibrox. Hibernian we’re winning 2-1 when the ball hit off the defender’s hand. Celtic have been penalised for very similar moments, however, nothing was given and there was no check.

Speaking to Go Radio Ferguson said: “This is the big debate.

“Previous to that (decision) if we’re going to have consistency and we go back to the Celtic handballs.

“O’Riley’s, for me, was never a penalty and that last night was never a penalty in my eyes but if you’re going back to six/seven weeks ago with consistency then it would have been a penalty.

“Maybe during this break they’ve had a chat – the referees and VAR people – and they’ve said ‘listen, c’mon, some of these penalty decisions that were given against Celtic and other teams are absolutely ridiculous’.”

The hand ball decisions against Celtic have been atrocious. The James Sands incident was correctly called as NOT a penalty and the decisions to penalise Celtic were incorrect.

The inconsistency from the VAR officials meant that when Sands hand met the ball, there was rightfully any outcry. All clubs need to be scrutinised with the same rules.

The decisions against Celtic could have had a profound affect on how the league looks. However the Hoops went above and beyond to make sure despite the poor decisions, they continued to grab win after win.
