Celtic are close to appointing former Liverpool and Tottenham scout Steve Hitchen in an advisor, or even as a director of football type role, according to reports.

The talent finder has been out of work since leaving Spurs but now could be set to return to the game with Celtic as they look to build on what Ange Postecoglou is doing.

Ange’s mantra on the training ground is ‘we never stop’ but that also goes for recruitment behind the scenes. The Australian is very aware he can’t keep his big players at the club forever and wants to ensure when any of them go, there’s a plan in place to keep the team at an optimum level.

We saw it last season when Ange knew Tom Rogic was thinking about leaving. Matt O’Riley was brought in early so he could bed into the squad. Haksabanovic is also signed to a long term deal knowing well the interest in Jota will ramp up over the next 12-18 months.

SunSport claim Ange is keen to bring in Hitchen to the club to get to work as soon as possible. Mark Lawwell is already working behind the scenes eat Celtic, but it’s not quite clear what his role is at present.

It was a good weekend for Celtic. The bhoys won 6-1 against Hibernian at Celtic Park.
