The rumour mill is churning at full speed as the season reaches its climax. One of the most hotly debated topics amongst the Celtic faithful is the potential departure of Ange Postecoglou to Tottenham Hotspur.

As supporters, we find ourselves in a quandary, torn between wanting what’s best for Postecoglou and what’s best for Celtic. Let’s take a balanced look at both staying at Celtic and moving on.

I’d like to add the caveat that this is all rumours at the moment and as far as we’re aware, Ange hasn’t had a decision to make as he looks forward to Saturday’s showpiece Scottish Cup final.

Pros of Postecoglou Staying at Celtic

Champions League Football: One of the most enticing prospects for Postecoglou remaining at Celtic is the opportunity to compete in the Champions League next season. This prestigious tournament is a stage where he can continue to prove his mettle against Europe’s elite.

Adoration of the Fanbase: Postecoglou is a firm favourite at Celtic Park. His passion, commitment, and footballing philosophy have endeared him to the Celtic faithful. Leaving now would mean parting ways with a fanbase that truly appreciates his work.

Unfinished Business: Two years ago, Postecoglou embarked on a project at Celtic, a project that is far from complete. He has a vision for the club, and many of us want to see the Australian take us further down the line.

Unique Bond with Celtic: It’s rare for a manager to feel such a strong bond with a club. Postecoglou has often spoken about his deep connection with Celtic, a bond he may not replicate elsewhere.

Instability at Spurs: Tottenham Hotspur has gained a reputation for being somewhat of a ‘basket case’ club, with a revolving door for managers. Even those with significant reputations have found themselves ousted prematurely. This instability could be a deterrent for Postecoglou.

Pros of Postecoglou Moving to Spurs

Massive Budget: At Spurs, Postecoglou would have access to a significantly larger budget. This would allow him to build a squad to his liking and potentially compete at the highest level.

Opportunity to Implement Attacking Style at a higher level: Postecoglou is known for his attacking style of play. At Spurs, he would have the chance to implement this style in the English Premier League, arguably the most competitive league in the world.

Chasing European Qualification: Spurs, despite their recent struggles, are still a club with the potential to qualify for European competitions. Postecoglou could be the one to guide them back to the Champions League.

Salary Increase: While not the most important factor for Ange on any move he makes in football, it’s worth noting that a move to Spurs would likely see a significant increase in Postecoglou’s personal salary.

Raising His Profile: Managing in the EPL would undoubtedly raise Postecoglou’s profile. It’s a stage where the world’s best managers showcase their abilities, and Postecoglou could prove that he belongs amongst them.

Fitting Farewell: With the possibility of winning a treble with Celtic on Saturday, Postecoglou could ‘drop the mic’ in the most spectacular fashion, leaving on a high and moving onto a new challenge.

The decision for Postecoglou is not an easy one. There are compelling reasons for him to stay at Celtic and enticing opportunities should he choose to move to Spurs.

We hope Ange sticks around, but unlike when Brendan Rodgers left, I’m positive that Celtic fans would still universally respect him if he were to leave.
