Ange Postecoglou was back at Lennoxtown on Monday as he gets set to lead the bhoys into his second season in charge of the club.

There’s no football being played until July 9, when the bhoys are at their Austrian training camp. So naturally, transfer news is something the Celtic fans are craving.

The Hoops boss spoke to CelticTV about transfers and what exactly he’s looking for as well as time frames for it. The manager has made it clear he doesn’t want to rush signings – making sure he gets the right players and the right people through the door is of paramount importance. The Australian admits that can take time.

“Yeah, but last year I was really keen to get people in the building.

“I thought in the January window we worked more methodically. We knew what we wanted and we got them in early.

“It’s the same this time – I’m not one to rush things.

“For me, the most important thing is to get the right players in.

“That’s the key for me and it’s not just about them as players, it’s about them as people.

“For that to happen we can’t put time-lines on things.

“Obviously, the earlier we can get players in the better.

“We have a unique scenario this year in that we have got a clear pre-season without any any competitive games which is a great advantage for us.

“So for me, apart from strengthening the squad, just being able to work with the group of players we had last year in pre-season is going to be invaluable as well.

“Most of the players either missed pre-season or we threw them in during the season.

“So working with this existing squad over the next three or four weeks with the coaching staff will be invaluable.”

There was no mention of Jota and with Celtic back in training, it’s safe to assume no agreement has been reached to finalise a deal or the Portuguese winger would’ve been at Lennoxtown yesterday.

Being a CelticTV interview, there was no specifics asked about transfers or Jota related questions out to the manager.

Celtic have made the loan deals of Daizen Maeda and Cameron Carter-Vickers permanent this summer – they’d love to see Jota join that list.

  1. Celtic TV managed interview, so , meaning no muppets asking directly about Jota . As everyone seems to be falling over themselves about this player , right now . If he signs he signs , if he doesn’t, then we move on .
