CELTIC should have a whole new set-up in place by the time pre-season rolled around but because they put their eggs in the Eddie Howe basket – things unravelled very quickly after the Englishman waled away from the deal.

Ange Postecoglou has come in and is doing his level best to get a song out of the players he has at the moment, but the circumstances are not ideal.

Not having a proper recruitment hierarchy in place and going into a Champions League qualifier with largely the same team as last season speaks to where Celtic have gone wrong since January this year.

Failing to plan properly and get things done as professionally as possible has set us back – how far back? We’ll find that out in the coming months.

Asked about if there was a Director of Football coming in soon – Ange Postecoglou let it be known that wasn’t his focus at all because he needs to think short term at Celtic right now.

“There are literally only 24 hours in the day and I’m spending them on the things I think will help us in the short term.” Postecoglou told RecordSport.

“There is a time and a place for those kind of discussions and that time is not now.”

Sort term thinking has got us nowhere in recent times and not having a long term plan has hurt the club. Going into next season underprepared – after the fans have come out again and backed the club with season ticket sales – is unacceptable.
