Brendan Rodgers had revealed that Alistair Johnston has been back in training for Celtic for the past few weeks and might have made his return against Kilmarnock, if not for the artificial pitch.

Johnston, who suffered an injury while on international duty with Canada in early June, has yet to play under Rodgers.

Many had anticipated Johnston’s return for the game against St Johnstone; however, his absence from a recent training clip has raised questions. Celtic shared a video from Friday’s training session, where the squad was seen participating in drills under Rodgers’ watchful eye. While the expected players were present, Johnston was conspicuously absent.

Rodgers had hinted at a possible start for Johnston during his press conference on Thursday. Yet, something seems to have transpired between then and Friday’s training session that may put his return in doubt.

Fans are hopeful that Johnston was merely camera-shy and did participate in training. His presence could be crucial for Celtic, especially as they prepare for the upcoming derby against Rangers at Ibrox.
