Vasilis Barkas’s time at Celtic didn’t go as planned.

Celtic splashed out a big £4.5 million for Barkas during Neil Lennon’s time as boss. They hoped the Greek star would shine in goal and replace the outgoing Fraser Forster. But things didn’t work out. His performance fell short and didn’t justify the hefty price tag.

After a string of let-downs and a loan move, Celtic decided to cut their losses. They ended his contract a year early, effectively saying goodbye to their £4.5 million investment.

So, what’s next for Barkas? Well, every cloud has a silver lining, even in football. And Barkas might have found his.

According to Greek news outlet Sport Time, English Championship club Swansea City has shown interest. They’ve reportedly been chatting to Barkas about a possible free transfer. This could be the fresh start the goalkeeper needs.

Swansea is well-known for giving players another shot. They’ve often helped players find their feet after a stumble. This could be the perfect chance for Barkas to get back on track.

For Celtic, they now have to consider whether Joe Hart will remain their number one this season, or if they’ll bring in serious competition for the Englishman.
