VASILIS BARKAS was named in the starting XI for Wednesday night’s game against Bristol City – but with five minutes until kick off, Celtic called an audible and replaced him with Scott Bain.

The Celtic social media feed merely told us about the change but didn’t go into detail why the decision had been taken.

It was fairly obvious Barkas had picked up an injury but the mystery was what kind of injury had been sustained by the Greek goalkeeper.

Images coming out of the game clearly show Barkas with two of his fingers taped up. The goalkeeper could have possible staved his hand but if he’s broken one or two fingers, it most certainly rules him out of next week’s tie against Midtjylland.

A broken finger can take from two to 8 weeks to heal and in some cases can take longer.

We will likely get an update in the coming days.

It’s not been good news on the injury front for Celtic on Wednesday; they have Barkas out, Johnston went off injured followed by Karamoko Dembele.

Celtic are thin on the ground as it is, this only makes things worse.
