ROSS DOOHAN, who is at Tranmere Rovers on loan from Celtic, has backed Barkas claiming that the Greek keeper is a top keeper. After having pre-season with the 27-year-old, Doohan has said he has learned a lot from the keeper.

It is expected that Barkas will leave Celtic this summer with a number of clubs interested in the keeper. He joined in 2020 when Neil Lennon was the manager but has since struggled with form and found himself falling in and out of the team. he have been unable to make a start under Ange since the arrival of Joe Hart.

Speaking to Football Scotland, Doohan, 23, had this to say of the goalie;

“From what I’ve seen of Barkas, he’s been good,”

“Obviously I was on loan a lot last year and didn’t work much with him but in pre-season I liked working with him and learn from him.

“He’s a good goalkeeper.

“It’s unfortunate some things have happened but I really think he’s a good player.

“I don’t know too much about his personal life, you’d maybe have to ask him, but it’s maybe not quite worked out.

“It’s absolutely not because he’s a bad goalkeeper.

“It’s just one of those unfortunate things.”

Barkas moved to Scotland during the Global Pandemic, which would unsettle the player, and played all of his first season with no fans at Paradise. It wasn’t the easiest season to play in either with lots of outside noise surrounding the club from top to bottom.

The best thing for Barkas is to find a new club and start again, he couldn’t have turned a bad keeper overnight so a fresh start will do him the world of good.
