JAMES FORREST has found an unlikely ally in player turned pundit, Barry Ferguson. Speaking on some of the stick Celtic players get, even though they have won every trophy on offer domestically since 2017 perplexes Ferguson and used James as an example.

“I can’t believe the criticism some of the players get from Celtic fans.” Ferguson told the Go Radio Podcast.

“James Forrest. Look, I know he’s not everybody’s cup of tea. But for me, he’s still one of the top performers (at Celtic). Just look at his stats, I think he’s played over 400 games for Celtic.

“Listen, I know he’s not flying every week – but what footballer does?”

James has always split the Celtic support. He has grown up in front of the support and had had his bad times, good times and great times.

He does get unfairly criticised at times by a section of the support but as Barry Ferguson does get it spot on when he talks about Forrest’s contributions.

The lad has come through the ranks at Celtic and has been a real success story for the club. He continues to show his importance to the team but there are games where he could also be doing with a rest or have better competition to keep him on his toes.

When all is said and done, James will be known as a player who excelled in one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. Not bad!
