JACKIE MCNAMARA has told Leigh Griffiths to lie low and let his football do the talking from now on after taking a dig at his former boss Neil Lennon as the striker made a loan move to Dundee.

The pair fell out last season when Leigh turned up to pre-season unfit and then when Leigh did seemingly get up to speed, Lennon opted not to use him, claiming Leigh was never fit enough.

Their war of words went into this summer before Leigh signed a new one-year deal with Celtic – the pair were on BBC radio in the same week blaming each other for issues that arose during the ill-fated behind closed door season.

Former Celtic captain Jacke McNamara knows the buck has to stop with the manager and the blame culture in football lends itself to these sorts of spats.

“It’s a big moment now for Leigh Griffiths to go and play, to get himself fit.” Jackie told SunSport.

“We’re not privy to what happened last year, and the relationship between him and Neil Lennon.

“There are managers you fall out with, there are coaches and players who don’t get on.

“But Griffiths has got to get his career back on track — there’s no doubt when he’s fit and doing well, he is a natural goalscorer.

“That’s what Dundee and James McPake are hoping he’ll show when he’s up there.

“Neil’s said different things as well. But he’ll be wanting to get back into management, and won’t be wanting tit-for-tats with players.

“It’s a blame culture, unfortunately, and the buck stops with the manager most of the time — as I’ve found out with experience over the years.

“I think for Leigh it’s just a case of getting fit, and the best way to do his talking is by playing well and scoring.”

Celtic signed the frontman to a new deal before deciding to cut their losses with Leigh.

The player was sent home from their pre-season camp in Wales after an online incident and after that, Ange Postecoglou seemed reluctant to use the player.
