Celtic fans were left gut-wrenched late on Wednesday evening after Pedro nodded home at the back post to give Lazio all three points in Glasgow. It was a disappointing evening for the Hoops, but one cannot fault the team for their efforts.

Throughout the match, the hosts competed and were thoroughly in contention to take something from it. The players that were on the park made the supporters proud, and Rodgers believes his men gave their all, the fans’ reactions at full-time putting testament to this.

Despite seeing their team concede a painful last-minute winner, many stuck around to applaud the team as they walked around the pitch at full-time, and no one showed any form of hostility or anger towards the players. On this and his team’s efforts, the double-treble-winning boss said (Daily Record): “I can’t complain about what the players gave to the game, the effort they put in and the quality that they showed as well. The indication of that was the supporters at the end. They were obviously as disappointed as we were, but they also recognised the effort that the players put in.”

As the song goes, Celtic fans will support the team faithful through and through. No matter the result, if the players give their all and make those in the stands proud, they will be applauded.

That was precisely what happened midweek but heading into Saturday’s clash with Kilmarnock, Rodgers and his team will look to add a result to the performance and strengthen their position as league leaders.
