BRENDAN RODGERS has given Celtic fans some good news this week after declaring Olivier Ntcham is looking to sign a new deal with the club.

The Frenchman signed from Manchester City last summer and has grown into the Celtic jersey over time. His touch, passing and general influence in the game when he’s on-form is unquestionable.

With the transfer window looking nothing other than abject failure for this Celtic board there is at least one thing to be happy about and that’s Ntcham staying even though there was heavy interest in the player’s services elsewhere.

Speaking about his midfielder, Rodgers was confident of a new deal.

“There was interest in Olivier but we sat down with him and his representatives and talked through the plan.

“He’s been here one year and it shows the development he’s had with the interest shown in him. We’re not ready to sell. When we took Olivier here, there was a plan for him and his situation has come up earlier than we’d have thought.

“He and his representatives are in discussions about a new deal so hopefully it could be finalised soon.”

It’s believed FC Porto were the team looking to sign Olivier in this window and were offering upwards of £14million for the Frenchman.

Celtic really cannot afford to lose a player like Oli at the moment and at least the club has seen sense on that.
