BRENDAN RODGERS has hinted he may give Kieran Tierney some game time on Sunday against St Johnstone after declaring the player needs more ‘football fitness’.

The defender has been out of action since December and has only linked up with his teammates in training over the past couple of days.

Kieran has been suffering from a hip injury which has been a bit of a mystery to the Celtic staff who were playing trial and error in a bid to fix the problem. It looks like they have got the player to a place where he can look at getting back on the field.

The game against St Johnstone may come too soon but you never know; Brendan Rodgers might want to see how Kieran’s body reacts to competitive football.

Speaking to CelticTV Rodgers said: “Kieran’s been back in with the team which is great news. He will need to find some more football fitness”

The manager did try to quell expectation about an early return by admitting Izzy might not make Sunday’s game but would be available against Valencia. “Emilio – we will see how he is for the weekend but I’d expect him to be fit for Thursday.”

Celtic look to defend the Scottish Cup for the third time in a row this season with Brendan Rodgers chasing a treble, treble. The Celtic manager would have to be certain to play Kieran for any amount of time.
