CELTIC manager Brendan Rodgers has clarified the team’s mentality for the new season.

Brendan Rodgers

Speaking ahead of the season’s first league game against Ross County on Saturday, he insisted that the squad is not out to defend their league title, but instead, their ambition is to win it.

He explained on Celtic TV: “The mentality is that rather than defending it, we want to win it. That’s what’s key. We start everything afresh. It was a great achievement last year and the years leading up to that, but everyone starts with no points at the beginning of the season.”

Rodgers’ return to Celtic has been seen as a step to complete unfinished business by the manager. He continued, “That’s the excitement for me of coming back here. I always felt like I had unfinished business here when I left and went away, but now I’m back, so happy to be here, and really eager to take on the expectation and pressure that comes with managing Celtic.”

The manager’s perspective signals a fresh and forward-looking approach as Celtic prepares for the new season. It indicates his understanding of the pressure that comes with leading the Hoops and his readiness to embrace the challenge.

Last season, Ange Postecoglou’s side won the league at a canter, but it’s expected to be somehwat more challenging this season, with a near-new squad on the other side of the city.

As the team strives to repeat their past successes, this winning mentality will undoubtedly be critical in shaping their journey in the season ahead.
