Brendan Rodgers has openly lamented the lack of pace and dynamism in his current Celtic squad, highlighting the stark contrast to the team he first managed at the club.

Following a disappointing 0-0 draw with St Johnstone, the Celtic boss pinpointed what he believes are deficiencies in the team’s current setup, emphasising the urgency to address these issues.

Rodgers said [Mail Plus], “If you go back to my first time here, the team was fast and dynamic, got through the lines quickly, created and scored goals. This is what we’ll eventually get to. But we’re missing those certain profiles, so hopefully, we can bring that into the squad and be a lot cleaner and a lot quicker in our play.”

These comments come at a time when Celtic have faced heavy scrutiny for their recent performances.

Fans and pundits alike have questioned the club’s transfer policy, and Rodgers himself has sent what some perceive as “coded messages” to the board regarding his involvement in recruitment.

The Northern Irishman’s statement appears to be a plea for urgency in the remaining days of the transfer window, subtly indicating that the squad needs specific types of players to fulfil his tactical vision. Rodgers seems focused on rebuilding a squad that can replicate the fast, dynamic style of play that characterised his successful first stint at the club.

Celtic fans will hope the board heeds Rodgers’ warning and acts swiftly to bolster the squad with players capable of bringing back the pace and creativity that have been hallmarks of the club’s past successes. With European matches and the crucial derby looming, time is of the essence for a Celtic team seeking to regain its former glory.
