Callum McGregor played his first match since February without his now trademark protective face mask.

The Celtic Captain marched on last season after a very significant cheekbone injury suffered during a Scottish Cup tie.

Celtic supporters have grown to love the Celtic Captain’s mask and his performances in it. Not long after Callum sustained the injury, there was rumours he’d be out for the February Glasgow Derby. Instead, he appeared with the mask and put in an outstanding performance as Celtic blew away their Glasgow rival’s.

One of the highlights of the 3-0 gubbing of Rangers was Callum and his mask chasing down Borna Barasic and when the defender ran the other way, you can hear an audible taunt from the Celtic Captain on the TV.

Callum also played Scotland games this summer with the mask on. We had no idea when we’d have Cal back to normal, then he popped up against Rapid Vienna back to normal.

Given Celtic’s charge towards the title last season and Callum’s instrumental influence on the park, the mask will follow him around long after he’s retired. People will look back fondly on Callum and his mask.

The Celtic lifer has been and still is an incredible servant for our football club. We can’t wait to see him lead the bhoys out as captain in the Champions league.
