Celtic captain Callum McGregor has insisted that his side are gradually becoming more used to the Champions League.

The Scotland international was one of few Celtic players who had previously experienced Champions League football but knows exactly what it takes to compete at this level.

Ange Postecoglou’s team put in a decent shift against the current European champions Real Madrid on matchday one but were punished for not taking their chances throughout the game.

A point is never a bad result on the road in the competition, but many Celtic fans were frustrated on matchday two having felt that Celtic should have won the game away to Shakhtar Donetsk with the Ukrainian champions still to visit Celtic Park.

Postecoglou has continually spoken about chipping away at this level which his side will be hoping to do tonight with a positive result in Germany.

RB Leipzig may sit bottom of Group F with zero points but it could be said that this game is Marco Rose’s first match to stamp his authority on his Leipzig team in the Champions League.

The 4-1 drubbing at home to Shakhtar lost former manager Domenico Tedesco his job at the club with Rose first taking charge of an away match to Real Madrid.

The Celtic captain insists his side won’t be taking anything for granted as they go into this game.

“We need to continue to grow in the competition as a group,” said Callum McGregor speaking to Independent.ie.

“There’s a lot of new players playing at this level for the first time and the guys have handled it really well so far.

“As a group we just continue to grow bit by bit and understand the game.

“It is really ruthless at this level. Teams take their chances and when you are on top in games you need to find that little bit of quality to get yourself ahead.

“We have started the campaign well, we have learned a lot already but we are a confident group and we think we can have a positive outcome.

“We know it will be a tough match. It is a really high-level opponent that we are up against and all we can do is prepare the game plan we think can win the game, be aggressive and try to implement our style.”

“We have to take our chances when we get them and do a lot of things right defensively so we are looking forward to the game.”
These back to back matches against the Bundesliga club will be crucial and Celtic will be hoping to show why they aren’t just there to make up the numbers.
