Even the harshest of footballing critics would struggle to come up with any negative context with regards to the champions 7-0 victory over Perthshire side St Johnstone in a packed-out Celtic Park. On a day of momentous positivity for Celtic one area of satisfaction his home more than most; the performance of our right back Hatem Abd Elhamed.

The signing of the full-back was met with scepticism by many Celtic fans. With many viewing the purchase, as a nod to the club’s relationship with Dudu Dahan of old to continue. The shoehorning of a predominant centre-half, into the much-maligned right side of defence has lead sections of the support to grow increasingly concerned.

However, their queries over his ability were appreciably put to bed after a very encouraging debut performance from the Israeli. Elhamed looked to fit almost seamlessly into a Celtic side, who were evidently baying for blood in what is a season of gargantuan proportion for the Hoops.

The 28-year-old shows elements of his game; that Celtic have been crying out for in a right-back for quite some time. Comfortable on the ball, successfully linking the play and smart decision making in wide areas. All of these things have lead to Neil Lennon labelling the Israel capped star as outstanding in relation to his performance.

Undoubtably, one counter-argument that can be stated is the standard of opposition Elhamed found himself up against. St Johnstone looked like a team in disarray with each other, and reinforcements are needed in order to stave off the potential threat of a relegation battle at McDiarmid Park. The former Hapoel Be’er Sheva full back will face sterner tests, and will need to be up to standard to carry on winning the underwhelmed contingents of our supporters over.

The Bhoys supporters and staff alike will be hoping Elhamed will aspire to build on his positive start. If he does he could be an invaluable player for the Parkhead club this season going forward.

It will be only the top 14 players that will get most game time in any team,if any player wants in he must play above the top of his game and play without fear he must be physically strong and mentally stronger he must show what he is all about and play for the team and most of all he must be able to turn the rest of his team mates on to make them raise there game week in week out…….

But first and foremost he must be able to play football to a very high standards….
