It was ten months ago Charly Musonda came to Celtic and was welcomed with open arms by the supporters.

Musonda came with a reputation of being one of the top young star’s playing his football in the UK and was just off a Chelsea game where he had assisted Eden Hazard in scoring a goal.

There was a lot of hype surrounding the signing which would see Charly come in for a year and a half on loan.

However, after just five months at the club and very little game time the Belgian Under 21 decided his future was best served elsewhere.

It came down to game time and Brendan Rodgers wasn’t willing to play the midfielder when his own stars were playing well.

Musonda thought different and decided to head back to Chelsea where he was then loaned out to Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem.

But it looks like Celtic have dodged a bullet.

Since heading to Vitesse the Chelsea youngster has yet to start a match after a knee injury flared up, the same sort of knee injury that has seen him miss spells for the Chelsea under 21s as well as Real Betis when he was on loan there.

Musonda messaged his fans recently saying he was positive but wouldn’t be back on the field until 2019 as he looks to recover from his latest knee problem.

The midfielder returned to Chelsea for treatment but hopes to play some game time for Vitesse this season.

Given Celtic’s already huge injury pile up, having Musonda at the club and something like this happening would have been a disaster.

We wish the player all the best in his recovery.
