Top transfer journo broke the story on Tuesday afternoon that Celtic were in dialogue with Carl Starfelt and his agents over a possible move for the defender.

Carl, 26, is currently playing in Russia with Rubin Kazan where he has a contract until 2024 and would command a transfer fee.

Swedish publication, Expressen, have claimed the fee is likely to be around the £4m mark and Carl’s former club IFK Göteborg would be due 10% of the transfer fee due to a sell-on clause inserted into the deal between the Swedish club and Kazan.

Celtic have yet to spend some serious cash this window, they are in desperate need of reinforcements as soon as possible to bed them in between now and the beginning of the season.

Celtic’s Champions League campaign kicks off in two weeks while the start of the SPFL season is just over three weeks away.

If Celtic are serious about bringing the centre-back to the club, they need to act fast.
